We can’t get enough of Epokhe’s latest collection. Two of the label’s founders, film maker Kai Neville and pro surfer Dion Agius, spoke to us about what inspired the new collection, their design philosophies and the perfect pair of shades.
Kai I was working on the surf film ‘Modern Collective’ with Dion, Mitch Colbern and some other surfers. It felt like we had so much creative momentum that I didn’t want to end the run on the film.
Dion We discussed it for three years before we actually pulled the trigger on the label. There was no one out there making glasses that inspired us. So we set out to make something our friends would wear.
Kai I take inspiration from old films, books and moments on the road. The main design process is lurking through vintage markets around the world. You find little bits of gold and mesh them together with this reference imagery and create mood boards for each style.
Dion It starts with the fit. Making the most comfortable pair of glasses is the most important before the actual style.
Kai We try to do what we want, have fun and not sink the company along the way. Our work ethic and decision making has worked so far.
Dion I’m not too sure, hopefully someone who appreciates nice design. We have a lot of fine nuances and sculptural designs to our glasses that hopefully get appreciated.
Kai Classic optical frames of the past. We then try to make them feel really contemporary with a fashion twist.
Kai Candy, designed by our surf ambassador Creed McTaggart. It looks razor sharp.
Dion He’s our close mates, one of the best surfers in the world and he has an incredibly unique style. We wanted to represent his rad style with the Candy frames.
Grab the Candy frames exclusively online and shop Epokhe in General Pants Co. stores.
